Recently, the Charity Commission held a summit on Safeguarding.
The NCVO helpfully summarised on their blog the key points from the summit, including one quote which particularly struck us:.
Safeguarding is a matter that goes to the heart of being a charity:
it’s about treating people with respect, protecting the vulnerable, and doing the right thing.
We’ve heard some stories recently which have caused us to wonder whether, with regard to the second part of this quote, the Charity Commission
should be looking inwards as well as outwards.
Trustees and ex-trustees of charities have shared with us their experiences at the hands of the Charity Commission.
We believe that these will shock and horrify most people.
We will soon begin to share those stories on this blog.
In particular, we know that the Charity Commission has a failing in one area:
treating people with respect.
The results of this failing, we know, have included illness, emotional breakdown and suicide.
