Now, we know that the Charity Commission is not usually quick to complete its investigative work - and that's being kind.
However, they have excelled themselves in the case of Newham Community Leisure.
The Charity Commission were alerted to issues over the governance of this charity getting on for 5 YEARS ago!
As ever, the Charity Commission are hiding the progress of its investigation [ that's if it's even started it ] behind a shroud of secrecy.
As ever, its refusal to provide an update to the public it is paid to serve is justified by the
excuse that doing so might "prejudice the outcome of the inquiry”.
This is all too often the usual get-out for the Commission.
We say a huge "Well done" to those people who - with a banner saying "Release the Report!" - protested at the Charity Commission’s central London offices.
We really hope that your action and the petition with more than 1,700 signatures will precipitate the release of the report and the rightful and just outcome of the inquiry.
We also really hope that it will make the Commission wake up and start acting for the benefit of the charity's beneficiaries.
In the protestors' own words:
"... it is deeply regrettable that it has been necessary to organise a petition to demand the kind of action needed to ensure public confidence in the integrity of the charity sector.”
