Helen Stephenson, now the CEO of the Charity Commission, has a past role as Chair of the National Childbirth Trust.
Helen Stephenson, CEO of the Charity Commission, was responsible in that life for sacking a number of trustees as a precaution, on the advice of a media firm.
The sacking was done to avoid any possible criticism of the charity after a child died in a cot branded with the NCT logo.
We say: that’s what trustees of charities are for, isn’t it? To take the blame!
Investigations revealed that the NCT trustees were not to blame. Helen Stephenson then faced criticism over her handling of the situation. And rightly so.
Now, what Helen Stephenson doesn’t know yet is that, in her new role as CEO of the Charity Commission, when it comes to criticism her head is right in the lion’s mouth.
More to come on this…
For now, however, we’ll just share that Helen Stephenson is quoted as saying:
“I have been involved in many charities. I don’t think it would be fair to talk about my involvement in any of them.”
Why not? we ask. What DID you do at the other charities?
Oh, Helen, please DO tell.
